Gig with the band - January 28, 2012
It's been a few months since I've played with the whole band, but that's just what's on the schedule for February 28. Join us at 8pm that Tuesday at Sullivan Hall, 214 Sullivan Street in the Village!

I'll be joined by my talented singer/songwriter friends on January 5 for a special show celebrating the 40th anniversary of Joni Mitchell's album, Blue. We're all getting together and each performing a song off the album. I've picked the lovely "Little Green." The whole show is a benefit for the Christopher Street Coffee House, a series of concerts held at the historic St. John's Lutheran Church on Christopher Street in the Village. The show starts at 7:30pm and it's $15. The list of performers is:
MEG BRAUN, ANNA DAGMAR, HONOR FINNEGAN, SHARON GOLDMAN, VICTORIA LAVINGTON, CATHERINE MILES, KARYN OLIVER, ELISA PEIMER, ALLISON SCOLA, CAROLANN SOLEBELLO, and ALLISON TARTALIA.
It will be an amazing evening of wonderful songs sung by talented singers!
I just got one of the nicest reviews ever from a visiting journalist at my show at Governor's Island. I'm waiting for it to appear online, so in the meantime, here it is:
Eclectic Company
Incidental Music
By Leslie Berman
Incidentally, the best music of the afternoon of water was turned in by singer/writer Elisa Peimer, whose delicious and thought-provoking pop songs have been and should continue to be featured in soundtracks and cover versions by all and sundry, if the gods of getting-what-you-deserve get their collective act in gear. Peimer’s been buzzing around the fringes of the about-to-make-it-big circuit for a while now, and her sweet and sultry vocals on her albums and EPs do justice to her tuneful, soulful music. After overhearing her first song, I began to listen with intent, and soon found myself the owner of one of her CDs, courtesy of my ever-thoughtful brother. We discussed Peimer’s chops and the to-ing and fro-ing of her success between numbers, falling silent each time she began to sing. Why hasn’t she made it big yet, we both wondered? Well, there is that power-ballad sensibility, and most young artists are doing their best to avoid the wall of sound, except if they’re selling tunes to TV shows that love the lush life. But though her songs seem familiar, even if they’re nothing you’ve ever heard before, they also offer unexpected musical twists, and I for one hope Elisa Peimer never tires of making music. If I knew that new music like this would be coming at me for the rest of my life, I could be content.
It's starting to be outdoor gig season and I've got the first one coming up in May. On Sunday, May 15 I'll be playing Big Bayfest in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Check out their website here. I'll be playing on a pier by the water. Specific pier and time TBD.
Then on Thursday, May 19, I'll be joined by the outstanding Martha Redbone, Rob Schwimmer, & Steve Addabbo at the Songwriter's Beat at the Christopher Street Coffeehouse. It's a night of amazing songwriting and performing starting at 7:30. Check out the Calendar page for more details.
I'm playing my first-ever show in Staten Island with the illustrious and talented Jon Sobel from the band, Whisperado. We'll be at Uncle Bourbon's on February 24th.
Two radios links today:
I've got a song being played on the last NYC podcast of Radio Crystal Blue. Host Dan Herman is relocating to Philly, but of course, with the internet, I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more of his show from the far reaches of Pennsylvania.
Also, here's a press release about WDFH, a wonderful local radio station near where I grew up in Westchester County. Marc Sophos's labor of love has kept this free-form station going against all odds. In a time of computer programmed radio, WDFH is smart and refreshing. I was a guest performer there a couple of years ago, and I plan to make another appearance this spring.
As 2010 comes to an end, it's time to start planning for 2011. So, a show is booked! Join us Tuesday, January 25 at 8pm at Sullivan Hall for a gig with the full band. And happy 2011!
My gig at Brewed Awakening in Metuchen, New Jersey with Sharon Goldman has been moved to February 17. Don't fret, New Jersey - I'll be there soon!
I've got a couple of acoustic shows coming up in the next couple of weeks. On Saturday the 20th, I'll be joining Meg Braun and Carolann Solebello at their Cafe Vivaldi residency in the Village. The show starts at 7pm, and our friend Allison Scola hits the stage before us at 6pm.
Then on Tuesday the 23rd, bassist Irwin Menken will join me at Sullivan Hall at 7:45pm for an acoustic set.
You can check out the Calendar page for all the details.
I'm enjoying the rest of August and will be playing again in September! Join me on Tuesday, September 28 at 9pm at the Parkside Lounge, 317 E. Houston, between Avenues B & C in NYC.
It's been almost 4 months - got a new job, went on a long vacation. In that order, actually. But I've gotten my act together and booked a new gig. Wednesday, July 7 at Kenny's Castaways at 9pm. The whole band will be there and it will be great to play again.
Thanks to the lovely and talented Laura McKenna, you can check out a video of "Driving in the Rain" from our gig last week at the Parkside Lounge.
Brilliant photographer Dan Mayers took some great shots of me at last October's Bitter End Chick Singer Night show. I've posted a couple of them in my photo gallery. Here's one:
Just got word that the gig at Parkside Lounge has been rescheduled to February 9 at 9pm.
Sorry, kids! Parkside Lounge had to cancel my gig for January 13 due to another event at the club, so I'm working to try to set up a new date for the new year. Stay tuned. And in the meantime, enjoy this little holiday ditty from my favorite alt-country crooner, Jon Sobel:
Amazingly talented photographer Dan Mayers stopped by my Chick Singer Night at the Bitter End last month and took some wonderful pictures of me onstage with the Chick Singer Night house band. Check them out here!
I'm playing my last show of the year at Kenny's Castaways on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 8pm. The band and I hope to see you there to say goodbye to 2009!
Very cool video site, singingfool.com, just posted my video for Turning Circles. Check it out here.
One of the top podcasts on iTunes, Coverville, played my version of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" on their latest broadcast. Thanks to Brian for the play!

And I'm a chick singer.
I just got invited to play this month's Chick Singer Night at the Bitter End. The format is 4 female singers - myself, Deb Ferrara, Lisa Copolla, and Sibvon Rose - performing with the crack Chick Singer Night house band. I did this show a few years ago and it was a blast. This evening's show is a benefit for the Libby Ross Breast Cancer Foundation. This is a cause near and dear to me right now, since my friend and fellow singer-songwriter Victoria Lavington was just diagnosed with this disease.
The show is Tuesday, October 27 at 8pm. Details are on the Calendar page.
I'm going to be doing an instore performance at Best Buy in Manhattan at the end of this month. It's at 6th Avenue and 23rd Street in Chelsea, so I'll get to walk there. Which is how I like to book all my gigs. I'll be playing guitar and Irwin will be playing bass. I haven't done a guitar gig in a while (I've been playing more keyboard recently), so I really have to practice.
In the meantime, I'll be watching Glee on TV tonight. Yes, I was in Show Choir in high school. The ribbing may begin.
Here's a nice shot of the Union Square gig show last month, before the rain shut us down.
I'll be playing with the band again this Wednesday, August 19 at 7:30 at Googies above the Living Room. Meg Braun plays after me at 8:30.
